The Home Office, based in Barbados, came to us during the early stages of planning the design of an e-learning product on Human Trafficking. They were looking for support for the full design service including incorporating different languages.

Flexible training provision on tap

With the creation of a bespoke learning solution, the Home Office's teams can access the learning they need, whenever and wherever they need it.

Hello Home Office!

The Home Office is the lead government department for immigration and passports, drugs policy, crime, fire, counter-terrorism and police. They have a growing global workforce and the need for flexible, consistent and 24/7 availability training sits very high on their agenda.

How did we help?

Home Office International Operations (HOIO) is a UK government department, which seeks to engage positively with overseas partners and support sustainable capacity building programmes. This e-learning partnership is an important and integral part of that delivery.

The challenges of delivering training in such a geographically disparate region required Elearn4business to work closely in partnership with officers from HOIO. Together they explored and agreed training structures and platforms for delivery, in order to develop a fit for purpose product.

Claire Alleyne, Project Support Officer had this to say…

“I am not the best with technology and ‘how it all comes together’, but you have helped me through it and together we created the now widely acclaimed Human Trafficking e-learning. The look and feel and the interactivity of the e-learning has been greatly and widely praised.”

The challenge: creation of a bespoke e-learning solution to support training delivery across Latin America

HOIO engaged with Elearn4business to develop a bespoke multi-language training course, initially to Jamaica and outer Caribbean Islands, which presented its own challenges around delivery, due to the potential of poor internet connection on some of the Islands. They required the full design service and support in making the bespoke courses available on an existing learning platform. They also required a further platform to roll out the courses to staff in a number of countries, namely: Colombia, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and Brazil.

The solution: bespoke project management

To meet HOIO's needs, Elearn4business drew on their decades of experience.

  • Understanding HOIO's requirements in depth
  • Working closely with HOIO subject leads
  • Following a tried and tested development process following strict guidelines to achieve the agreed deadlines
  • Support with the creation of a translated version of the course
  • Providing technical support when it come to the upload and testing of the course prior to final delivery.

The results:  everyone learning, everywhere

1,400+ logins

1,220+ course completions

600+ training hours

The readily accessible e-learning product is useful for business continuity, used as an ongoing and sustainable capacity building resource and for providing core and refresher training. These virtual courses allow the momentum of the UK funded capacity building training programme to be maintained. This has been an awesome achievement and we will continue to support our colleagues across Latin America with the support of Elearn4business.

Michael Patton – Immigration Liaison Officer, Home Office International Operations had this to say…

Since I started in Bogota, the Human Trafficking e-learning course had already been rolled out to Colombia and Bolivia. We then introduced the e-learning to Brazil, Ecuador and Peru with the support of Elearn4business.

We started to receive some communications from some of our officers when they come across potential cases of Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery, with them now having better knowledge than before they had undertaken the e-learning course. These officers are now able to make better decisions in dealing with the potential victims of trafficking.

We would not have had the reach and been able to train the number of Migration Officers that we have trained if it was not for the e-learning system that has been put in place by ELearn4business. In a normal face-to-face training environment, we usually do not train more than 30 officers in one session.
